What documents and baggage tags should I have for a smooth self-transfer flight?

To make your self-transfer as easy as possible, keep the following items handy:

  • Boarding Passes: Have both printed and digital copies of your boarding passes, as you'll need them for security checks and boarding.
  • Baggage Claim Tags: When you check in your baggage, you’ll receive a claim tag (a small receipt with a barcode). Hold onto it — it’s essential if your baggage gets delayed or lost.
  • Travel Itinerary: Carry a printed or digital copy of your complete travel itinerary with all flight details, so you can quickly check any delays or changes.
  • Customs Declaration Form: Some countries may require a customs declaration upon arrival or during transit. Make sure to complete any necessary forms in advance.
  • Visa and Travel Documents: If a visa or other documents are required for your layover country, have them easily accessible. Even on a self-transfer, you might need to pass through immigration depending on the airport’s procedures. Please note: as a travel agency, we don’t provide visa information. We recommend contacting the relevant embassy to confirm entry requirements for your trip.
  • Baggage Tags for All Flights (if re-checking baggage): If you need to collect and re-check your luggage, keep tags from both your first and connecting flights for reference.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Have the customer service numbers for your airlines and any available airport assistance lines on hand, just in case you need help with connections or baggage.
